I'm really worried about cane toads, how much damage can they cause to my area?

I live in Australia and I saw on the news today that cane toads have made their way across the QLD border and have been found in Sydney which is only two hours away from me. I have heard horrible stories about how they kill lots of pets and animals wherever they go because of poisoning and because the animals don't know they are poisonous. My cat catches frogs all the time so I'm specially concerned about her.
