Are job applications online good?

I recently discovered that applying for jobs online is basically "useless". However when i went job hunting, I personally went in fast food businesses and asked for an application. Only two stores had real applications there or told me to print one out. And the rest told me to apply online? Is there a less chance i will get an interview since i applied online?
