I need a video camera for these things?

Why do you need removable lenses? Such cameras are indeed more versatile, but expensive. Nealy all domestic camcorders except the very cheapest come with optical zoom of fairly great range - usually indicated by "15x zoom", "24x zoom" etc. Much news filming theses days is done with souped-up versions of such domestic camcorders.
